Spicy Fried Egg Tostada

If you’d like a little kick of spice to wake you up in the morning but you don’t have much time to spend making a breakfast burrito or a more complicated dish, look no further than this cayenne peppered egg & cheese tostada.

Tostada is traditionally a toasted tortilla, but I used an english muffin instead. This recipe would go well with a toasted tortilla too if you prefer a more authentic tostada.




Nothing like a runny egg to combat the intensity of cayenne pepper, but If you’re worried about it being too spicy, just lightly dust the egg with one shake.¬† Even if it ends up being milder than expected, a small amount of pepper will still give it a nice warm flavor.


Spicy Fried Egg Tostada

Serves 1
Prep time 5 minutes
Cook time 5 minutes
Total time 10 minutes


  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 english muffin
  • .5oz cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (a shake or two)


1. Toast english muffin. Top with cheddar.
2. Add butter to pan. Preheat pan over medium-high heat. Swirl butter to distribute.
3. Drop in egg. Sprinkle with cayenne pepper. Fry egg for about a minute, then cover pan for about 2 minutes until egg is finished cooking. Add to tostada.
