I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love oatmeal. I eat it for breakfast, I bake with it, and now I eat it for dessert too. Oatmeal is a great canvas that can become a lot of things with the right balance of sugar and spice. Not only that but unlike most dessert foods, it provides some substance too: protein, fiber, and iron, good stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good donut or piece of pie, but why not change it up once in a while.
Another bonus to the oatmeal dessert option: Even If you’re really careful and methodical, this recipe takes only 4 minutes to make.
You can add the chocolate and strawberries before or after microwaving the oat mixture based on your preference. I added mine before cooking so that the chocolate is nice and melty and the strawberries seem less bright (sour) to me when they’ve been warmed up a bit. That could totally be in my head though.
Chocolate Strawberry Dessert Oatmeal

- 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
- 1 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2/3 cups milk
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (2 drops)
- 3-4 sliced strawberries
- 1 heaping tablespoon chocolate chips
|1.||Mix the oats with the brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix in the milk and vanilla, then top with strawberries and chocolate chips.|
|2.||Microwave for one minute.|
